Land Activities

Borrow a ball from the water sports centre and have a game of beach volleyball, try your hand at petanque, or settle down to an afternoon or evening of board games available from the office. We also maintain a supply of paperback books for your reading pleasure. Of course, the most popular land based activity on a tropical island is relaxing. Our beach is equipped with a plentiful supply of loungers just waiting for you to settle into.

Village Walk - Free to House Guests

Every week house guests are invited to take a walk through nearby Mele village with one of our staff.  This is an informal activity that allows guests the opportunity to observe and have their questions answered about village life.  Most people come back with a better understanding of the differences between village life and their own lives at home.  Although English is not the primary language in the village, you’ll find most locals are happy to stop for a talk once they overcome their shyness.  The visit concludes with a stop at a kava bar where the traditional version of the national drink is available.  Vanuatu has the best kava in the world.

Melanesian Feast - 2650vt p/adult | 1650vt p/child (5-12yr)

Enjoy the pageantry of an authentic Melanesian feast.  Every Thursday night. On your arrival you will be welcomed with a shell of kava.  Fresh local dishes have been prepared by the people of Mele village and are served by an open fire.  Experience a mixture of traditional Ni-Vanuatu food  and western cuisine in an evening of local music, dance and dining.  You’ll also be entertained by the Jipajiroa string band playing a selection of popular Melanesian songs.  Hideaway staff will also join in with traditional village song and dance. And don’t be surprised if you find yourself joining the staff dancing around the campfire!  Definitely an experience not to be missed!

Movie Night - Free Popcorn

Join us on Wednesday and Sunday evenings for a free movie in our open air “Beach Theatre”.  Relax in a deck chair and watch a movie under the stars.

    Tours

The reception area staff will be happy to recommend and arrange a variety of off-island tours.  There are a number of p0pular tours nearby including the Cascade Waterfalls, Jungle Zipline, Jet Skis, Wet n Wild Adventure Tours, Buggy Tours, Congoola Sailboat, Fishing charters and much more.

    Golf

Vanuatu’s premier golf course is located on the mainland less than a five minutes drive from Hideaway Island. A relatively flat course, don’t be fooled into thinking it’s easy – with Mele Bay on one side, sand traps and trees to negotiate there are plenty of challenges to make it an interesting 18 holes.
