Accommodation on Hideaway Island has been built with a traditional Melanesian flavour, scattered amongst the jungle and tropical plants that cover the island.

The style and standard ranges from private Oceanside bungalows overlooking the water to quad share rooms with shared facilities.

One Bedroom Oceanside Bungalows

There are seven free standing one bedroom bungalows on Hideaway and two others of a similar standard that share a wall with another building. These bungalows are the largest of our rooms, however they retain that Melanesian feel with coral decorating the outer walls and local artefacts adorning the interior. All the one bedroom bungalows have spectacular views over the water and are placed to see either the sunrise or the sunset. With interior floor space of approximately 60 square metres, they are more than generously proportioned. The bathroom, living area and separate bedroom all work together to help you make the most of your prime position next to the ocean.

Double doors in the bedroom mean that, depending on the degree of privacy you require, you can even lie in bed and take in the views. The escape from the work-a-day world continues outside, as each one bedroom bungalow has either a wooden or coral deck with chairs and a double hammock, to really help you get into the swing of things.

Furnishings inside the bungalow include a fridge and coffee/tea making facilities, comfortable sofa setting and table and chairs in the living area. If required there is room for an additional double bed or bunks to be placed there. All the finishings in these bungalows are made of local hardwoods, and most have Hideaway’s signature giant clam shell sinks in the bathrooms. None of these shells have been taken directly from the sea, but have instead been recovered from their ancient burial spots after being used in traditional Melanesian ceremonies. With the blessing of their customary owners, they are now beautiful, as well as functional, hand basins.

Twin Share Rooms

Also called twin-dorms, the six twin-share beach units are ideal for the budget conscious couple or single traveler who’d like a little bit more privacy than a standard dormitory offers. Located right on the beach, the lodges are in a prime position for lazing and watching the world go by. They are located in a house-like structure with a wide wrap-around covered veranda with tables and chairs out the front and sides. Ideal for lounging on and taking in the dramatic views.

The rooms are furnished with a double or twin beds, a small cupboard and a hand basin. Separate shower and toilet facilities are close by.

Quad Share Rooms and Conference Facility

Hideaway Island is proud to announce the opening of our new accommodation & conference facility in April 2004. The new two storey building, with a larger 185m2 footprint, incorporates six new quad share rooms. Each room has a ceiling fan, individual bunk lights, power outlet and lockers. The central communal area provides a lounge area for guests. We’ve also provided a lighted area for camera setup, with extra power outlets for charging stations. Unlike the old dorms, the new facility provides separate male & female changing facilities, each with two showers, three toilets & two wash basins.

Upstairs, we literally raised the roof to give the extra headroom necessary for a conference space. This room has ample power outlets, wiring for surround sound and provides connections for laptops to tap into our new high-speed Internet network. The conference room is situated to provide a great view of Hideaway’s beach overlooking Mele bay, with windows along all the walls and French doors leading out to a large balcony.

The entire building is built using poured concrete & blocks, providing excellent protection from the elements and sound attenuation between adjacent rooms.
